Does the tree have branches that are rubbing, diseased, damaged or even dead?

Damaged branches are likely to die soon after they are damaged, or will continue to grow with a much weaker structure than before. Removing dead branches with the correct pruning techniques will enable the tree to heal the wound more quickly, and prevent the decay from spreading.
